Detroit's best-kept secret
In late 2015, after sending out over 400 copies of his then-unmastered debut solo album, Dealing With People, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer John Kowaleski discovered that audiences everywhere crave his “genres-be-damned” approach to creating music; his songs resonated with people from all walks of life.
Feeling encouraged, John formed the band that would become John K. & Who's To Say. After a year of forming the band and rehearsing, in March 2018 JK&WTS debuted to a sold-out crowd on a Wednesday night at PJ's Lager House in Detroit.
Since their debut, JK&WTS has impressed audiences with their live shows in pockets across the midwest and northeast United States, and was featured on national television multiple times thanks to The Dan Patrick Show.
JK&WTS has released 20 singles since 2018, each one different from the last. While many of the songs focus on socially-charged topics—gun control, climate change, alcoholism, drug addiction, police brutality, diversity, division, etc.—the overall message of the music is intended to positively impact others and inspire a more intentional way of day-to-day living (and a few holiday songs don’t hurt, either).
After a post-COVID hiatus, John has spent the last few years writing songs for the next JK&WTS album—while also producing and mixing music for other bands and artists across the country—and has several new releases on deck to close out 2026 and roll into 2027.
Bottom line: Detroit’s best-kept secret won’t be hidden for much longer.
